Triple action corn herbicide offers strong weed control and lasting protection

BASF has announced the introduction of Ridivex™ herbicide, a new premix solution designed to help corn growers manage weeds more effectively. The herbicide combines three active ingredients with three different modes of action, providing both strong weed knockdown and long-lasting residual control. The product is currently pending registration with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

“Ridivex™ herbicide will equip corn growers doing the biggest job on Earth a new all‑in‑one early-post tool engineered to stay ahead of weed emergence and maintain clean fields through critical growth stages,” said Jessica Dorsey, Product Manager for Corn POST Herbicides, BASF Agricultural Solutions. “This triple‑mode of action formulation is designed to help growers stay ahead of resistant weeds and protect yield potential without compromising on performance.”

Ridivex™ herbicide is developed to simplify weed management for corn producers by offering an all-in-one early post-emergence tool. The formulation is designed to help farmers maintain clean fields during key growth stages while protecting crop yield potential.

According to BASF, the herbicide delivers powerful weed control with visible results in as little as four hours. It can control more than 200 broadleaf weed species, offering growers reliable performance in challenging field conditions. The formulation also includes diflufenzopyr, which enhances the movement and effectiveness of dicamba within targeted weeds.

Another key feature of Ridivex™ herbicide is its long-lasting residual activity. The product provides control of more than 80 broadleaf and grass weeds for up to eight weeks. This extended protection is supported by pyroxasulfone, an active ingredient also used in Zidua SC herbicide, known for its strong residual weed control.

Ridivex™ herbicide contains three active ingredients: diflufenzopyr, dicamba, and pyroxasulfone. Together, these ingredients provide a triple-mode of action that helps manage resistant weed populations. The formulation also includes a built-in crop safener that improves crop tolerance and protects corn plants during application.

Weed resistance continues to increase across many corn-growing regions. Resistant weeds often require farmers to apply multiple products or make additional passes across fields, which increases costs and workload during busy planting and growing seasons.

The new herbicide is designed to address this challenge by combining multiple weed control strategies into one product. By targeting weeds with different modes of action, Ridivex™ herbicide helps reduce the risk of resistance and improves overall weed management.

BASF notes that Ridivex™ herbicide is not yet registered for sale and is currently under review by the Environmental Protection Agency. The information released is intended for educational purposes until official registration is granted.

Once approved, the product is expected to provide corn growers with a convenient and effective option for managing weeds and protecting crop yields throughout the growing season.

During the growing season of 2023 as summer turned into fall, the Rural Routes to Climate Solutions podcast and Regeneration Canada were on the final leg of the Stories of Regeneration tour. After covering most of the Prairies and most of central and eastern Canada in the summer, our months-long journey came to an end in Canada’s two most western provinces around harvest time.

This next phase of our journey brought us to Cawston, British Columbia, acclaimed as the Organic Farming Capital of Canada. At Snowy Mountain Farms, managed by Aaron Goddard and his family, you will find a 12-acre farm that boasts over 70 varieties of fruits such as cherries, apricots, peaches, plums, pears, apples, and quince. Aaron employs regenerative agriculture practices to cultivate and sustain living soils, which are essential for producing fruit that is not only delicious but also rich in nutrients.
