Fresh Christmas trees bring festive charm to your home

A Christmas tree is the heart of holiday décor, symbolizing joy and tradition. Opting for a fresh, locally grown evergreen enhances your festive experience, bringing the look, feel, and aroma of a traditional Christmas.

Local farmers play a significant role in providing fresh trees, making this choice not only festive but also a way to support agriculture. According to the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA), Christmas trees are part of over 200 crops grown locally. Purchasing one contributes to farmland preservation and the environment.

“A real evergreen is a central symbol of the Christmas celebration and we encourage Ontarians to add a local touch to their holiday décor this year by choosing a real tree,” said Drew Spoelstra, President of the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA). “Christmas trees are just one of the more than 200 agricultural crops and products that are grown and raised here in Ontario and we appreciate everyone who supports Ontario farmers, whether it’s by buying local or signing on to be part of our Home Grown campaign.”

When selecting a tree, consider the following tips:

  • Choose a size that fits your display area.

  • Test the freshness of the tree by checking for resilient needles.

  • Ensure the tree has a vibrant green colour and fragrance.

  • Use a stand with good water capacity to maintain the tree’s moisture.

Fresh evergreens are not only a beautiful addition to your home but also a natural escape from the manufactured world. They create a cozy atmosphere and evoke nostalgic holiday memories.

This year, enhance your celebrations with a natural touch and cherish the festive charm of a real Christmas tree. Support local farmers and keep traditions alive by visiting a nearby Christmas tree farm.

This year we sprayed Miravis Neo from @SyngentaAgUS late in the season at brown silk. Plants were healthy at the time, but fungicides like Miravis Neo can have other benefits beyond protecting crops from disease. It can also keep the plants alive a bit longer during grain fill, and help keep a late harvested corn crop standing
