A farmer from East Selkirk, Manitoba used a tiller and his wheat field to ask his girlfriend a very special question.

John Yokimas carved out a marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Sally Hnatiuk.

The couple have been dating for close to four years. Yokimas, 28, felt the time was right to settle down and marry Hnatiuk, 22.

Yokimas said the idea of a farm-related proposal was something he’d thought about even as a young boy.

It took him about an hour to carve “I love U Sally Will U marry me?” complete with a large heart. Afterwards, Yokimas surprised Hnatiuk with a plane ride in St. Andrews.

"I made sure that she was sitting in front of me with the pilot so she wouldn't see me like fumbling to get anything ready or whatnot," he told CBC.

Hnatiuk saw the letters but make out its message at first.

"He didn't say anything then I look back at the field and actually read it, and it says 'I love you Sally will you marry me?' "she told CBC. “And I look at him and he’s asking me to marry him.”

She said yes and the couple plans to marry sometime in 2017.
