Women In Agriculture Explore Mindset Growth Through Quarterly Book Discussion
The Nebraska Women in Agriculture program, along with Annie’s Project, has selected The Gap and The Gain as the featured book for its first quarter Book Club. The program will conclude with a virtual discussion scheduled for 1 p.m. Central Time on March 9. Participation is open to everyone, and registration is free.
In The Gap and The Gain, author Dr. Benjamin Hardy builds on ideas previously introduced in WHO NOT HOW. The book presents one of Dan Sullivan’s key teachings, explaining that unsuccessful people focus on “The Gap,” while successful people focus on “The Gain.” This concept encourages readers to rethink how they measure progress and success in their lives.
The book explains that many ambitious individuals struggle with dissatisfaction because they compare themselves to an ideal version of success that constantly changes. When people measure progress against that moving target, they remain stuck in “the GAP.” However, when they measure their growth by comparing their present self to their past self, they begin to experience “the GAIN.”
This mindset shift is based on Dan Sullivan’s coaching work with thousands of entrepreneurs. His clients often realize they have achieved far more than they believed once they reflect on their past progress. According to the book, this simple habit creates strong psychological benefits and builds gratitude, motivation, and confidence.
The book emphasizes that recognizing progress helps people feel positive even during challenging times. This perspective can lead to greater fulfillment and long-term success, especially for individuals who feel happiness remains out of reach despite hard work.
The virtual discussion will be led by special guest Calli Thorne, a certified speaker, coach, trainer, and facilitator. She brings a unique perspective shaped by both professional speaking and hands-on agricultural experiences.
Registration is available through the Nebraska Women in Agriculture website. The first 25 people to register will receive a complimentary copy of the book by mail. All attendees are welcome regardless of race, gender, or any other protected status.
