New training program helps non ag hires gain farming knowledge and confidence
Grounded in Ag and AgCareers have partnered to launch the Ag Onboarding Academy. This new program aims to help employees who are new to agriculture gain the knowledge and confidence needed to succeed in the industry.
Today, many people entering agricultural careers do not come from farming backgrounds. According to AgCareers, nearly 40 percent of job applicants do not have an agricultural education, and about 30 percent are not currently working in agriculture. This creates a gap in basic industry knowledge that employers must address.
"The wide variety of careers in the agricultural industry today invites people from different experiences, education, and backgrounds who may not have agricultural knowledge," said Bonnie Johnson, Marketing & Communications Manager, AgCareers. "Our latest analysis indicates nearly 40 percent of AgCareers.com's job applicants do not have an ag-based education, and 30 percent of them are not currently working in agriculture."
The Ag Onboarding Academy is designed to close this gap. It provides simple and practical lessons that introduce participants to farming practices, industry terms, and the culture of agriculture. The goal is to help employees understand the work they are involved in and feel more prepared in their roles.
The program includes video-based courses that can be accessed online through web and mobile platforms. Each course is supported by quizzes, downloadable materials, and trusted resources. Learners can choose from different course combinations that cover general farming knowledge, as well as optional topics focused on crops or livestock.
"Good onboarding is one of the simplest and most effective ways to help someone feel welcome, confident and capable in a new role. Helping people understand and appreciate agriculture and the farmers many of us serve is the focus of our programming," said Janice Person, founder of Grounded in Ag.
He added, "Participants hear directly from trusted farmers and experts who impart expertise in the business, farm practices and culture as they deliver the lessons. This collaboration with AgCareers makes practical training tools more accessible so more businesses can add that industry lens, improve understanding, and set employees up for success."
Experts and experienced farmers play an important role in the training. They share real life experiences and explain how farms operate, giving learners a clearer picture of the industry. This approach helps employees connect better with customers and perform their duties more effectively.
The program also supports agricultural businesses by improving employee readiness and retention. When workers understand their roles and the industry, they are more likely to stay confident and engaged. Good onboarding can help companies build stronger teams and improve overall performance.
Additional advanced learning options are available through Grounded in Ag for those seeking deeper knowledge in specific areas. A free preview is also available for individuals and companies interested in exploring the program.
