The challenge encourages educators to use AgScape’s interactive agriculture educational resource to teach students about local foods that are grown in Ontario.
Milton, ON - AgScape, the voice of agriculture in the classroom Ontario, today announced a province-wide education challenge that will allow teachers and students to trek across Ontario to explore and learn about local foods without leaving their classrooms.
Educators who teach Grades 4 to 8 can now register their classroom to play AgScape’s Agri-Trekking Across Ontario interactive, gamified resource during Local Food Week from June 3 to 9. After registering, teachers will be mailed a free package containing curriculum-linked resources and fun classroom materials to help them engage students in agriculture and food topics.
In addition, participating classes will receive a certificate to recognize their involvement in the Agri-Trekking Across Ontario Challenge that they can display proudly.
“AgScape’s mission is to empower Ontario students with impartial and accurate information to increase awareness of the agri-food system and ignite interest in related careers,” said Glenna Banda, Executive Director.
“By launching this challenge, we are hoping to create an exciting opportunity during Local Food Week for educators to include agriculture and food into their classroom curriculum, and to have more conversations with their students about topics such as food choices, healthy eating facts, sustainable farming practices and environmental initiatives,” said Banda.
AgScape’s Agri-Trekking Across Ontario Challenge is now accepting registrations. Individual classes, schools, and entire school boards are encouraged to take part in this unique learning opportunity.
