CFO Donates $10,000 to Daily Bread Food Bank

TORONTO, ON – Chicken Farmers of Ontario (CFO) announced a donation of $10,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank as part of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation’s (CBC’s) annual Sounds of the Season fundraiser.

The donation was made as part of CFO’s food bank donation program called CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks. The program enables chicken farmers to donate fresh, nutritious, locally-grown chicken to food banks across the province.

CFO Chair Ed Benjamins joined CBC radio’s Gill Deacon live on-air to make the announcement.
“Chicken farmers are proud members of their community and giving back to support those in need is a priority for farmers, especially during the holiday season,” said Ed Benjamins, Chair of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “On behalf of Chicken Farmers of Ontario and our 1,300 family-run farms across the province, I am pleased to make this donation of $10,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank, as part of CBC’s Sounds of the Season fundraiser.”

In addition to this financial contribution, the CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program has continued to support local food banks throughout 2021. This year alone, 550 farm families have donated through the program, providing over 1.4 million meals of chicken to people in need.

“The CFO Cares: Farmers to Food Banks program is placing chicken that is both locally sourced and healthy in the hands of those who need it most," said Denise Hockaday, CEO of Chicken Farmers of Ontario. “Proteins like chicken are among some of the most-needed items at food banks and we want to ensure that every Ontarian can access safe, high-quality chicken.”
