Corn rootworm management webinar set for Feb. 20

URBANA, Ill. - As the 2014 growing season approaches, many questions remain on how to best manage western corn rootworms in light of the ongoing concerns over resistance to some Bt proteins, said Mike Gray, a University of Illinois entomologist.

A corn rootworm management webinar will be held on Thursday, Feb. 20, to address these and other issues. The program will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (CST). The webinar is supported by a USDA-NIFA North Central IPM Program grant. Presenters for the webinar include land grant entomologists:

Joe Spencer, Illinois Natural History Survey; Rootworm biology and behavior
Aaron Gassmann, Iowa State University; Resistance evolution and IRM for rootworm
Lance Meinke, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Adult management options
Bob Wright, University of Nebraska-Lincoln; Larval management options
Ken Ostlie, University of Minnesota; Decision tree for grower management options
