Tomtene Seed Farm – Producer Profile

By John Deere News

Tomtene Seed Farm was founded in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, in 1967 when Terry Tomtene, son of a local barber, decided that he wanted to follow his passion and make his living from the land. With the help of his uncle, Terry bought his first property, developed his farming operation and started a family with his wife, Lois Tomtene.

Two of the three Tomtene children now operate Tomtene Seed Farm. Steve Tomtene and his wife, Jeannette, along with his sister Susan (Tomtene) and her husband Dan Slind, oversee farm crop production and management of the various seed production services the farm provides.

Tomtene Seed Farm uses cutting edge seed production technology and techniques to produce wheat, oats, barley, peas and an assortment of specialty crops, such as yellow flax, spelt and high oleic acid canola, and a variety of dehulled food barleys.

In addition to seed production, Tomtene Seed Farm utilizes high-quality, certified equipment to provide services, including seed cleaning and testing, color sorting, debearding/dehulling and more, to its customers.

Steve and family continue to develop and expand their business while remaining strongly rooted in love for family and the land. Tomtene Seed Farm is dedicated to growing, processing and supplying leading varieties of seed and grains to its customers.
