Farmers Wrapping Up Seeding In Central Manitoba

Seeding is progressing rapidly in central Manitoba.

Manitoba Agriculture is pegging seeding progress anywhere between 40 and 95 per cent complete in the region, with the most progress being made in the eastern and southern parts of central Manitoba.

A significant number of producers have wrapped up seeding operations.

The majority of cereals are planted.

Canola acres range from 30 to 95% complete. A few flea beetles, both striped and crucifer types have been spotted during warmer days, but there has been no significant feeding evidence on volunteer canola to date.

Corn continues to go in, ranging from 60 to 100 per cent complete, and sunflowers and flax range from 40 to 60 per cent done.

Soybean acres range from 20 to 80 per cent complete.

We are taking students out to southern Manitoba to Hespler Farms! Farmer Wayne will teach students how he plants and cares for his potato crop and why potatoes are such a unique crop to grow. Teachers, check out your AITC Dashboard for Math'd Potatoes, a potato-themed classroom resource to pair with this tour video. Thank you to Peak of the Market and Penner Farm Services for making this event possible.
