Fresh Ontario Greenhouse Produce Now Available in Grocery Stores

Buy Local and Support Ontario’s Greenhouse Fruit and Vegetable Growers

TORONTO – Our greenhouse fruit and vegetable growers work hard to provide us with healthy, high quality and delicious produce. Support Ontario’s greenhouse growers by enjoying fresh cucumbers, now available in grocery stores, and tomatoes and peppers which will be available in a few weeks.

“With spring just around the corner, fresh, delicious Ontario greenhouse-grown seedless cucumbers are available right now at your local grocer,” said Ernie Hardeman, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “Ontario greenhouse-grown tomatoes and peppers are close on their heels. Look for them across Ontario by early April.”

“Ontario’s Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG), are thrilled to team with Foodland Ontario in delivering the “Our House to Yours” promotion signifying that spring comes early when it comes to our fresh, locally produced Greenhouse grown Cucumbers, Tomatoes and Peppers. For over 50 years our greenhouse farmers have answered Ontarians desire for superb, nutritious and delicious produce and they continue to grow this capability today,” said Joe Sbrocchi, General Manager of Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers.

Ontario greenhouses produce more than 149,000 kg of cucumbers, 191,000 kg of tomatoes and over 95,000 kg of peppers per year. When buying, look for the Foodland Ontario logo to know you’re supporting Ontario’s greenhouse growers. Buying and supporting local food creates jobs and fosters economic growth in rural communities across the province.
