Frozen pork supplies down 11% from previous year

Total red meat supplies in freezers in July were 2% lower than June’s inventory and 5% less than the year prior, dropping to 826 million pounds. With just 405 million pounds in stock, June frozen pork fell 3% from the previous month and 11% from June 2024.

According to the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service’s latest Cold Storage report, pork bellies, at 32 million pounds, were down 28% from June and 25% from last year. As for other pork cuts, picnics came in at 7 million pounds (up 15% from 2024), ham 126 million pounds (down 9% from 2024), loins 33 million pounds (down 1% from 2024), ribs 62 million pounds (up 5% from 2024), butts 20 million pounds (down 3% from 2024), trimmings 36 million pounds (down 2% from 2024) and variety meats 18 million pounds (down 33% from 2024).

Total beef stocks came in at 398 million pounds, down 1% from June, but up 1% from the year prior. Boneless beef inched up 1% from a year ago to 357 million pounds, while beef cuts slid 2% to 41 million pounds in July.

On the poultry side, stocks as of July 31 were up 4% to just over 1.1 billion pounds, but down 2% from a year ago. Chicken stocks were up 3% from the year prior to 773 million pounds. July chicken supplies saw increases over last month in legs and leg quarters, but decreases were seen in breast meat, drumsticks, thighs and thigh quarters. Wings and thigh meat remain unchanged. Turkey stocks were up 9% in July, reaching 406 million pounds, but down 11% from the year prior.
