Grain analyst has cautious optimism about wheat and canola prices in 2018

Exports of Canadian wheat remain strong so far this crop year.

FarmLink Marketing Solutions senior market analyst Neil Townsend says shipments are ahead of last year at this time.

He has some cautious optimism about the wheat market, pointing to dryness in the U.S. and a relatively high quality wheat crop in Canada.

He says the wheat market could rise 25 to 50 cents a bushel or more this spring if weather remains dry in the U.S. grainbelt.

Townsend also expects renewed interest in the New Year for Canadian canola but the vegetable oil market remains under pressure around the world.
