Three ways farmers can use data to meet demands for sustainability

Soy consumers around the world are increasingly focused on how soybeans are grown. Farmers looking to demonstrate their sustainability as a way to increase soy demand may find an ally in their data. Information that farmers routinely gather can support their case. Here are three ways to make data work for you.

1. Collect

Yield data, nutrient records and planting information all provide a look into a farm’s productivity and sustainability.

2. Benchmark

Analyzing and setting baseline standards can help highlight good practices. Farmers are often frustrated by their inability prove or communicate how much they care about stewardship and sustainability. Utilizing data collected from their farm gives farmers tangible evidence they can use to convince customers they are doing the right things.

“Benchmarking and tracking their data gives farmers validation to show they can apply less fertilizer and still achieve high yields, and it can show that they are nutrient efficient,” Farmers Business Network Co-Founder, Charles Baron, says. “Data can illustrate how well they’re doing.”
