Insect survey maps are live

If you get a break from the sprayer, now is a good time to get out and scout. Depending on crop staging cutworms, wireworms and flea beetles are still a risk. Grasshoppers, Lygus bugs and diamondback moth are starting to pop up now too. Nothing beats boots on the ground, but Alberta Pest Monitoring Network surveys can help with prioritizing the long to-do list.

Did you know that you can submit cabbage seedpod weevil reports as soon as you start sweeping? Report counts here to update the live map. If you have traps out for bertha armyworm or diamondback moth you have your own convenient link there.

The Alberta Pest Monitoring Network staff are wrapping up surveying for pea leaf weevil. Watch for the results coming soon.

Diamondback moth pheromone monitoring has reached its final week. You can see the last update of the live map here. Areas with elevated or higher levels of moth capture have a risk of higher levels of larvae later in the season. Producers in those regions should prioritize scouting for larvae as the season continues. However, field scouting is still important in all regions.

Bertha armyworm pheromone monitoring is now live. See results here to determine how high of a priority bertha armyworm scouting will be in your region.
