IPM Auctioneers’ Challenge set for second year

The International Plowing Match (IPM) is hosting its second annual Auctioneers’ Challenge and is now accepting registrations from anyone interested in being part of the event that runs Friday, September 23 from 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the CKNX Events Centre.

Registration cost is $50 per auctioneer, which includes two entry tickets. The purse for winners is $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, $500 for third place and $250 for fourth place. Auctioneers will be responsible for auctioning off three items, and those who qualify for the next round will auction another three items before judges determine the winners.

Barry Gray, owner of Gray’s Auction Service Inc. in Harriston, is lending his 30+ years of expertise to the event. “I just hope we can lots of people to come out and we can get our 15 competitors,” he said. “It’s just something new and I hope the guys come out and support it. I’m looking forward to seeing how the second auction goes.”

Gray got into the auction business because he respected the people and it was a job he’d always wanted to do. He is the local committee chair of the Auctioneers’ Challenge and is helping the committee. He also participated in the 1984 IPM that was held in the area. In addition to helping with the IPM he was also part of the Canadian Auction Association and sat on their board of directors. He’s helped with numerous auction competitions.

Anyone interested in participating in the event can submit an email to Donna Lunn at projects@ plowingmatch.org. Deadline for entry is September 1st and is open to a maximum of 15 applicants.
