GoAg3 program celebrates generations of women leading agriculture

Illinois Agri-Women has announced the winners of its Legacy Farm Family Awards as part of the Generations of Women in Agriculture Across America (GoAg3) initiative. The program honors families whose women have played important roles in agriculture across multiple generations.

The first-place award went to the Schultz/Miller Farm Family from the regions of Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa. Four generations of women have been actively involved in production agriculture and livestock farming.

Their work extends beyond the farm into agricultural education, animal nutrition, banking, agritourism, transportation, and community service. The family has also maintained strong involvement in organizations such as 4-H, FFA, Farm Bureau, and local churches.

The Green Farm Family of Arthur, Illinois, received the second-place award. Their agricultural legacy began with earlier generations that built a strong foundation for future success. Today, family members continue to operate Heritage Family Farms while developing new income opportunities and supporting local organizations.

Their commitment to education, youth programs, and community service has strengthened both agriculture and rural life.

“It is truly amazing to see the array of leadership accomplishments and the involvement in agricultural activities by the Schultz/Miller women,” said David Fischer, University of Illinois, retired Extension Dairy Educator, in his letter of recommendation for the Schultz/Miller Family.

The third-place award was presented to the O’Bryan Farm Family of Oregon. Their agricultural story spans five generations and reflects dedication to livestock production and family farming. Current family members remain active in agricultural youth programs and livestock organizations while continuing traditions passed through the years.

“What makes these three women especially deserving of recognition is not only their professional excellence, but their deep commitment to service…agriculture thrives when communities thrive,” said Gregory Peterson, Farm Credit, Illinois, retired Vice President Ag Financial Services

The GoAg3 initiative was launched in 2025 to recognize women who have supported and encouraged family members to pursue leadership roles in agriculture. The program highlights the vital contributions women make to farming operations, agricultural businesses, and rural communities across the country.

All three award-winning families have been invited to attend the GoAg3 Celebration on August 21, 2026, in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. The event will feature educational sessions, professional development opportunities, and an awards presentation honoring the families.
