Manitoba Key In Feeding Growing Population

The owner of Canadian Prairie Garden Purees believes Manitoba can play a big role in feeding the world's growing population.

Kelly Beaulieu says other food producing regions, such as California, are struggling with issues such as drought, lack of energy and contamination.

She says Manitoba is not dealing with any of those issues.

"Manitoba is in a unique position in that we have a lot of vegetable production here currently. However, we have the ability to grow that vegetable production exponentially," explained Beaulieu. "We have all the cropping ability, we have the irrigated land, we have the top quality land, we even have the right growing conditions to put on the best quality product."

Beaulieu noted that globally, we we waste about 30 per cent of all our food.

She says innovations in technology, such as the aseptic puree process currently used by her company, can help alleviate the problem.
