Massey Ferguson® Introduces Tough 4600 Series Utility Tractors

Massey Ferguson® , a global brand of AGCO (NYSE:AGCO), introduced the all-new 4600 Series utility tractors to farmers during the 2013 National Farm Machinery Show. This Series of heavy-duty utility tractors is a direct replacement for the popular 2600 HD Series, and each of the three new models is an ideal fit for loader work, hay production and general on-the-farm use.

Powered by an all-new three-cylinder AGCO Power™ diesel engine, the MF4608, MF4609 and MF4610 tractors offer rated engine horsepower of 75 HP, 85 HP and 95 HP, respectively. Fuel economy, power and torque are key benefits delivered by the new engine, while state-of-the art emissions technology, a power-shuttle transmission and improved hydraulic performance top off the features found in these new tractors.

"The 4600 Series is a great choice for operators who need a tough, reliable tractor for hay production, utility work and day-to-day on-the-farm use. They’ll find these new 4600 Series tractors comfortable and convenient to operate, as well as responsive and efficient for handling nearly any job," says David Bercik, product marketing manager at Massey Ferguson.

The three new models are currently available in 4wd, with 2wd available on order. Cab or open-station with ROPS options offer comfort and versatility for the challenges of any job, and help further position the 4600 Series as a popular entrant to the market.

New turbo-charged three-cylinder engines offer power and compliance

The all-new three-cylinder engines from AGCO Power found in the 4600 Series tractors meet stringent Tier 4i emissions standards while delivering the turbo-charged diesel power, reliability and long life for which Massey Ferguson tractors are known. As an offering from the AGCO Power 33 AWIC engine family, these engines feature several new and many proven systems for ensuring power and performance along with clean exhaust.

"The design and technology found in these AGCO Power engines mirror those found in our larger diesel engines," says Bercik. "Primarily, we’ve focused on optimizing the combustion and fuel use to deliver the power needed in the most fuel-efficient manner possible."

Each cylinder contains four valves, which increase airflows through the engine and enhances fuel-air mixing for more complete combustion, helping ensure fuel efficiency. Wet, replaceable cylinder liners with mid-supports improve engine cooling, minimizing service and enhancing engine life. In addition, the SisuTronic EEM4, electronic engine management system monitors every aspect of the engine’s operation, controlling fuel flow and adjusting injection timing to deliver outstanding performance with lower fuel consumption. Finally, the engine does not use a diesel particulate filter, so there is no need to regenerate the filter, saving time and fuel.

Power-shuttle transmission for easy operation

All three tractors come standard with a 12-by-12 power-shuttle transmission, which makes back-and-forth loader work quick and convenient. Gears are fully synchronized, allowing for smooth shifting using the foot clutch while on the roll. When quick direction changes are needed, an electronically controlled, wet multi-disc clutch lets the operator shuttle the tractor, changing the direction of travel simply by flipping a lever rather than using the foot clutch.

Adding to the tractor’s convenience for loader work are an optional factory-installed hydraulic joystick and two mid-mount valves for easy connection of the loader hydraulics.
