Rain Delays Harvest In Regina Area

Harvest has ground to a halt in the Regina area following heavy rain on Labour Day Monday.

Shannon Friesen, the regional crop specialist in Moose Jaw, says the rain will delay harvest for several days.

But she says farmers made good progress last week, with harvest approaching 30 per-cent.

She says the rain may cause some downgrading of some crops like pulses, wheat and barley.

She says some crops may be bleached or stained.

Friesen says early crop yields are wide ranging, with lentils running from 2 to 30 bushels per acre.

It all depends on the amount of summer rain and crop diseases.
