Sask Irrigation Conference Now Open

The Saskatchewan Irrigation Conference opened yesterday in Moose Jaw.

Joel Vanderschaaf is the Chair of the Saskatchewan Irrigation Projects Association.

He says generally we see about 300 thousand acres being irrigated in the Province.

"The irrigation industry in Saskatchewan is in a good spot right now. We've been growing a little bit within the districts that we have.

This seems to be a decent uptake from some of the farmers, and the programs and infrastructure for them - it's been great," he said.

The SIPA President explains the importance of these meetings for growers.

"The two pieces of legislation that really pertain to the irrigation industry in Saskatchewan. They're going to be looking at amending some of those acts.

It's an important time for growers to come out and have their voice heard, and to learn what is on the horizon in terms of that," he said.
