Spring Oat Herbicide Options

Spring Oat Herbicide Options

By Dwight Lingenfelter

With recent rainfall and eventual warmer weather, spring oat and weed growth will soon speed up. Below is a listing of herbicide options to consider for weed control. You will notice that all the herbicides listed primarily control broadleaf weeds; no grass herbicides are labeled for use in oats. So hopefully, you are not having problems with downy brome, annual ryegrass, or bluegrass in your oat crop.

Herbicides labeled for use in spring oat include:

  • 2,4-D (amine and ester)
  • Aim
  • Callisto
  • Clarity/dicamba
  • Harmony SG and Harmony Extra (numerous generic alternatives available)
  • Maestro
  • MCPA
  • Peak
  • Sentrallas (“Harmony + Starane")
  • Starane Ultra and Starane Flex
  • Stinger

Make sure to apply the correct herbicide rate within the appropriate oat growth stage and not to exceed the maximum weed height otherwise crop injury or poor weed control will result. Some herbicides need to have adjuvants added to the spray tank, so be aware of this fact. Also, some of these products (e.g., Harmony products and related generics) restrict use on certain oat varieties. (On another note, I realize it’s a little too soon to be thinking about preharvest aids in oats, but only certain 2,4-D products and Aim are labeled for this utility.)

Video: We’re gonna build a new barn to start producing vaccines in Canada

We are a family farm in Ontario showing you what we do on our farm to produce eggs and what goes on day to day. Every day we do chores, gather eggs and make feed. On our farm we plant the crops and harvest them to feed the chickens, also we start our laying hens from day old chicks and raise them to be the best birds they can be to give you a grade A quality egg. After we are finished looking after our chickens, anything could happen from washing, waxing, fixing, welding, working on engines, working on classic cars, and more. I hope everyone enjoys cheers.

So since Covid, we have not had a way to produce any vaccines in Canada until now….. Valo has reached out to us to start start the process .
