Sumner Campus Conducts Ag Day as Part of Wheat Festival

With individuals enjoying the Wheat Festival in Wellington, Cowley College’s Sumner Campus tied into the festivities by holding an Ag Day event on Saturday, July 15.

South Central Dairy provided live milking demos with Hazel (cow), while there were antique tractors, a John Deere new tractor (Prairieland Partners), as well as a threshing machine, cotton gin, games, horses for show/pet, and a Cowley table with items to plant either flowers or veggies to take home and watch grow, sponsored by Farm Bureau.

At the Sumner Campus, Evan Dolley provided welding demos, while Tim Kennedy and Steve Anderson provided tours of the buildings and dorm. Sawyer Bowman helped children plant flowers and vegetables.

Eight teams participated in the Mindstorm Mashup, where one adult and one child teamed up to attempt to build a robot to throw a ball and make music. Along with Cowley College, KanOkla, Sumner County Economic Development, David Hays, and Sumner County Electric Coop helped sponsor the event.

A Pedal Pull contest was also held and had 30 entries of kids from 4-12 years old competing in their age groups. The top three places in the event are eligible to go to the State Fair and compete for the state title.

Sumner Campus Operations Officer Jan Grace worked the event along with Lynda Soria.

Individuals could get a passport for Ag Day, where Cowley stickers were placed on the passport if people went to the 4H exhibit, Sellers Park, Cowley College, and the Eatery.

Three winners will be awarded prize baskets.
