Syngenta Canada Inc. has named Shaun Vey as Head of Sales, Crop Protection. Effective today, he will lead the national sales and key account team from the company’s office in Calgary, Alberta, and serve on the organization’s leadership team.

“Shaun has a deep passion for agriculture, building strong relationships, and being part of a collaborative team. Over many years of working with Shaun, I have come to appreciate his leadership skills, strategic mindset, sharp business acumen, and entrepreneurial approach,” says Trevor Heck, president of Syngenta Canada.

Vey has held various roles at Syngenta for the past 14 years, primarily with the Canadian organization. Most recently, he gained international experience as Head of Marketing for Syngenta UK, Ireland & Nordics. In his new role, Vey will work with his team across nine provinces to build best-in-class customer experience, delivering innovative solutions with a focus on sustainability and quality.

“It’s great to be back with the Canadian team, serving growers and working with retail partners. I look forward to deepening our customer and industry relationships and advancing Canadian agriculture,” says Vey. “I’m grateful for the many opportunities throughout my Syngenta career that have prepared me for this role.”

Vey first joined Syngenta Canada as an intern. He then worked full-time as a Territory Sales Representative based in West-Central Saskatchewan. Following this, he moved to the product management team where he was responsible for a broad range of product portfolios including non-selective herbicides, insecticides, cereal seed, canola seed, and finally as Product Lead for Seedcare™. In 2019, Vey was promoted to the role of Disease Control Business Manager, leading the fungicide business in Canada and the launch of the Miravis® portfolio. In 2021, he relocated with his family to Cambridge, England where he led the marketing teams in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway.

Vey has a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from the University of Saskatchewan and an Executive MBA from Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.

Video: Our Own On-Farm Research Is the Best Source - Managing White Mold in Northeast Nebraska

If you assumed Nebraska was too hot and dry for white mold to be a problem in soybeans, think again.

This week we're featuring Galen Samuelson, a farmer and dealer from Wakefield, Nebraska, who knows all too well how devastating white mold can be.

"We don't have it consistently every year, but with our temperature and humidity, it can hurt us quite bad," Samuelson says. Looking for alternatives, he explains, "What I like about Heads Up is that it's non-harmful to the beneficial fungal colonies in the soil." Galen has been using Heads Up for several years now, after first hearing about it through a small ad in a regional newspaper. Watch below to hear about his journey.

When asked to write about Samuelson Seed, Galen said the following:

"Samuelson Seed is a 4th-generation, family-based company. It started with my grandfather, and I'm now starting to pass the torch to my son, Caleb."

"In the early 1990s, I started working with a company whose focus was on plant and soil health before those benefits were widely known. I've continued to keep plant and soil health the main focus in our farming operation decisions."
