Twelve go in - Three come out

Ontario Independent Meat Processors (OIMP) is once again on the hunt for the best of the best butchers in Ontario. The third year for this annual event will see four heats of three butchers each face off at an elimination round held September 12, from 12:30-3:30 pm, at Halenda’s - The Meat Store, 2110 Dundas St. East, Mississauga.

Join us and witness whether Peter Baarda, Ontario’s Finest Butcher two years running, rises to the challenge and makes the first cut to hold on to his title? Or will he be ousted as three of the other talented cutters move on to the finals to claim the ultimate bragging rights?

Competitors will have thirty minutes to transform a pork bone-in leg, bone-in shoulder butt, and bone-in loin, into cuts of their choice, and will be judged on the degree of difficulty/efficiency and skill level in boning, trimming and cutting, primal cut utilization, and financial performance.

The three butchers with the highest scores move on to the final round at The Meating Place, Saturday October 22, Huntsville.

We are taking students out to southern Manitoba to Hespler Farms! Farmer Wayne will teach students how he plants and cares for his potato crop and why potatoes are such a unique crop to grow. Teachers, check out your AITC Dashboard for Math'd Potatoes, a potato-themed classroom resource to pair with this tour video.
