Weather Outlook For The Balance Of March

After a period of mild weather, cooler conditions will prevail for at least the next 7-10 days.

After a period of mild weather that provided a nice change of pace from the bitterly cold late winter across Pennsylvania, cooler conditions will prevail for at least the next 7-10 days. Month-to-date precipitation is well above normal (125-200% of normal) across the southern 2/3 of Pennsylvania, while the northern third is near to slightly below normal.

Wednesday will be a cool day across the state, with parts of northern Pennsylvania struggling to get above the freezing mark by afternoon.Tranquil conditions will prevail through Thursday night ahead of a disturbance that will approach the region from the southwest by early Friday morning. This storm will bring a return to wintry precipitation for much of central and eastern PA on Friday, while northern/western Pennsylvania will see little to no precipitation. Places near the Mason-Dixon Line will likely see a mix of rain/snow. Any accumulations will be light (< 2”), though some higher elevations in eastern PA could see up to 3” by the end of Friday.

A cold front will then sweep through the region on Saturday, bringing the potential for another round of snow showers (mainly to the northern half of the state). Sunday will be chilly, with highs in the upper 20s – upper 30s with lows dipping down to the teens - low 20s. Some valleys in northern PA may reach the single digits by sunrise Monday morning.

Temperatures will remain below normal with dry conditions through the middle of next week. A return to milder weather appears unlikely through the end of the month.
