What Will Agriculture In Manitoba Look Like In 20 Years?

A futurist with Treadway and Associates is using his crystal ball to focus in on agriculture in Manitoba in the year 2035.

Bob Treadway says generally, Manitoba is in a perfect position to prosper in the future.

He expects worldwide demand for food to be substantial, and with that an increase in competition.

Treadway also expects Manitoba farmers to find new lines of revenue in the years ahead.

"I think the thing that I would say for the really smart farmers, who have the means whether they're small operators or large operators, to put their capital in the right places," he said. "I think there's going to be great investments in the future in terms of making your operation more sustainable economically by finding new lines of revenue and adding value to what it is that you're raising on the ground."

Treadway foresees that advancements in technology will allow for greater efficiencies and better use of the land.

He also expects that changes in climate will allow the US corn belt to make its way north into Manitoba.
