Empowering rural leaders for change

The Rural Ontario Institute (ROI) has announced the 2024 cohort of the Rural Change Makers (RCM) program, featuring young leaders dedicated to fostering growth and innovation in rural communities. These participants, aged 18 to 35, bring diverse perspectives and skills from across northern, central, southwestern, and eastern Ontario.

Through developmental and experiential Learning Labs, participants will complete community assessments, develop SMART action plans, and implement projects to address local priorities. With support from over 20 regional partners, including Community Futures Huron and Renfrew County Community Futures Development Corporation, these young leaders are well-equipped to drive meaningful change.

“We have another incredible group of passionate emerging leaders this year each with unique perspectives and lived experiences. 2024 participants in the program span northern, southwestern, central and eastern Ontario. They range in age from 18 to 35 years old and are at various stages in their lives and careers, but all at the beginning of this leadership experience of change and growth,” said Melanie Bidiuk, ROI Communications and RCM Program Manager. “I am excited to see how we come together, lead and how we give back in our communities.”

Key participants include individuals passionate about environmental sustainability, youth mentorship, and rural economic development. From creating innovative solutions for food security to promoting sustainable farming, these leaders are committed to shaping the future of their communities.

The RCM program demonstrates ROI’s dedication to empowering rural leaders and enhancing the prosperity of Ontario’s rural regions.
