Throughout Southern Ontario, many farmers rejoiced Tuesday as much-needed rains finally came to provide crops with the moisture they desperately needed.

Earlier in the week, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement warning of potential heavy rains. Some areas including Grey-Bruce, Huron-Perth and Waterloo-Wellington were under a rainfall warning.

Some of the rainfall amounts recorded by Environment Canada include:

  • Barrie – 45.7 mm
  • Brockville – 29.4 mm
  • Hamilton – 16.0 mm
  • Kitchener/Waterloo – 27.4 mm
  • London – 18.6 mm
  • North Bay – 10.4 mm
  • Orangeville – 31.0 mm
  • Simcoe – 9.4 mm
  • Timmins – 12.3 mm
  • Windsor – 40.8 mm

Environment Canada senior climatologist Dave Phillips said the steady rain is the kind farmers look for.

“It’s a slow motion, percolating kind of rain,” he told the King Connection. It’s an all-day affair. Not like the two hours we got on Saturday, or a couple of hours, when we got a heavy dose of rain.

The Weather Network forecasts more rain could be on its way.

Guelph, London, Brockville and Windsor have an 80 per cent chance of showers on Sunday, August 21, and a 70 per cent chance on Friday, August 26.
