De Dell Seeds Has Turned Over a New Leaf

Melbourne, Ontario: De Dell Seeds has turned over a new leaf, and transferred its ownership and management to the next generation. Founded by Vince Trudell in 1999, De Dell Seeds has grown and evolved over the past 22 years while maintaining its family roots. After putting in a lot of blood, sweat, and tears during the of starting up the business, Vince has decided to pass the reins to his eldest son Will. In August, the pair has made it official with Will Trudell purchasing the majority of shares and he will take over the day-to-day operations of De Dell Seeds.

The younger Trudell will manage the operations after serving as Vice-President of De Dell Seeds for the past 10 years. “It has been a long internship, and I have learned everything I know from my father” says Trudell, “I even adopted his style of haircut!” joked Will. Trudell does not intend to make any major changes to company polices but will continue to uphold the same high standards for customer service his father Vince taught him. “We value our loyal dealers and customers that have trusted us from the very beginning, as well as those who have joined us along the way, and we are very thankful for the continued support.”

“It’s a proud moment” says Vince, as its every fathers dream to have their son continue the business they started, but “don’t count me out just yet!” he joked. Vince will still be involved in the business as he thoroughly enjoys visiting customers and dealers. Vince will continue making those visits, whether it be for a sales call, or in the big rig delivering their seed, and he will continue to attend the trade shows as he has done in the past.

One area that Will intends to focus on is continuing to improve product performance and building for the future. “We have a great team in our research department who have done a good job of breeding improved hybrids and we have already advanced a long way compared to the early days.” De Dell’s breeding is done the traditional way, in the field, in an effort to bring you the best possible results on your farm. The hybrid lineup at De Dell has been constantly evolving with many new additions in the past few years, and if you have not seen a catalogue in the last decade, it would look completely different. “We have added many great new hybrids and from the research plots the guys have shown me, there are some very promising hybrids on the horizon, and I can’t wait to see what they breed next.”

Both generations are looking forward to the future. Will remarked “I have recently become a father myself, and I intend to continue to grow the business with the hopes my son will be interested in taking over one day just as my father provided this opportunity for me.”

De Dell Seeds remains a family-owned and operated seed corn company who specializes in Non-GMO and Organic seed corn. Currently they are offering thirty-six conventional corn hybrids, twelve of which are available in an organic version, ranging from 2000 CHU (67 Days) up to 3400 CHU (114 Days). De Dell has a network of dealers from coast-to-coast in Canada, as well as a smaller network of dealers in the United States
