More Weather Delays Looming For Farmers Finishing Harvest

Some producers in the southern regions of the province have already finished with the harvest.

Farmers who don’t have this year’s crop off yet will see another weather delay this week.

So far, about 70% of the Provincial Crop is in the bin with another 22% swathed or ready to straight-cut.

World Weather Inc’s Agri-Meteorologist Drew Lerner says we’ll see a change in the weather with the rain in the western and southern portion of the province today turning to snow for Wednesday.

"In some areas, the snow will fall so quickly and so significantly that we will see accumulations run anywhere from 3-8cm.

Lerner also says much of the province will see a change in the weather as rain turns to snow on Wednesday and the temperature gets colder.

"Moisture totals with this storm system will be impressive. We'll look for rain amounts running from around 15-45mm and there will be local totals between 45-65mm.

We are taking students out to southern Manitoba to Hespler Farms! Farmer Wayne will teach students how he plants and cares for his potato crop and why potatoes are such a unique crop to grow. Teachers, check out your AITC Dashboard for Math'd Potatoes, a potato-themed classroom resource to pair with this tour video. Thank you to Peak of the Market and Penner Farm Services for making this event possible.
