Penn State Extension in Franklin County welcomed new Field and Forage Crops Team member Kelly Patches to their staff on June 16. Kelly was raised on her family dairy farm with three younger brothers in Lebanon County. In high school, she was actively involved with FFA, and competed in soils, agronomy, public speaking, and parliamentary procedure contests. She also assisted her dad with writing nutrient management plans and is a certified plan writer.
Kelly earned her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Soil Science from Penn State. While studying for her undergraduate degree, she interned in the Penn State Extension Office in Lebanon County and later in the USDA-Agricultural Research Service office at University Park.Kelly recently graduated from Penn State University with a Master’s degree in Agronomy.
She worked closely with weed science professor Dr. Bill Curran conducting research and delivering extension programs on common pokeweed biology and management in no-till crops. Kelly is excited to work with producers and members of the agricultural community to continue to improve crop production.
