Proper handling of livestock key topic at Saskatchewan Stock Growers convention

Safe and proper handling of livestock is a key message at the Saskatchewan Stock Growers Convention, which opened Monday in Regina.

A well known livestock handling specialist, Dr. Temple Grandin says it is well worth the effort for cattlemen to handle their livestock with care.

She says it takes time to do good stockmanship, but it pays.

She says animals that are afraid of people are less productive animals.

She also outlined some new design ideas for cattle handling facilities.

Grandin is also an advocate for those suffering from autism.

More than 175 ranchers and industry officials are attending the Saskatchewan Stock Growers convention, which runs Monday and Tuesday in Regina.
