SW Mo. Beef Cattle Conference Set for Feb. 11 in Springfield

“Adding value to your cattle helps make your cattle operation profitable,” says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist. MU Extension is partnering with Missouri State University to provide the Southwest Missouri Beef Cattle Conference, Feb. 11 in Springfield, which will educate cattle producers on strategies that will add value to their beef cattle operations.

The conference will be held on the Missouri State University campus at the Christopher S. Bond Learning Center at the Darr Agricultural Center, 2401 South Kansas Expressway, Springfield. The conference begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. and lasts through the day, Davis says.

“This conference has a mix of industry and university people providing cattle producers strategies to add value to their beef cattle and operation,” he says.

Topics and presenters:

  • Cattle breeding programs to add value to your beef cattle operation. Adam McGee, assistant professor in animal science at MSU.
  • Using genomics and expected progeny differences to add value to your beef cattle operation. Clint Bailey, animal science graduate student at MU.
  • Calf management to add value to your beef cattle operation. Cameron Locke, veterinarian with Cedar Creek Veterinary Services.
  • Utilizing data to add value to your beef cattle operation. Mike John, Health Track Network

“Agriculture businesses that support the conference will have booths set up,” says Davis. Attendees can visit the booths and learn how their products can help improve their beef cattle operations.

For more information or to have a booth, contact the MU Extension Center in Cedar County at 417-276-3313. Deadline to register for a booth and pay the fee is Feb. 4.

Conference fee is $20 per person. Lunch is included with registration. Fee payment is required by Feb. 5. Register at https://cvent.me/ENGrAy or mail checks payable to MU Extension in Cedar County to the Cedar County MU Extension Center at 113 South Street, Stockton, MO 65785.
