USDA Designates Two Oklahoma Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas Because of Drought

Today, the USDA designated Oklahoma counties Harper and Woods, both in the northwestern part of the state, as primary natural disaster areas. At the same time, the USDA also designated counties in Iowa, Montana and Nebraska as primary natural disaster areas because of drought. These are the latest counties to be added, as of Sept. 30, 2021. Click here for the full list of counties in the U.S. on the list.

The Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the USDA Farm Service Agency to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation or the refinance of certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available and repayment ability.
