Two more Ontario barn fires kill cattle, hogs

Blazes less than 24 hours apart

Some 300 hogs were killed in a barn fire this morning south of Listowel, Ontario. And last night an estimated 70 dairy cattle were lost in a fire in Brockton, Ontario.

In the Brockton blaze, damages were estimated at over half a million dollars, with assorted farm equipment being destroyed as well.

Both incidents are being investigated, with no causes yet determined.

These are just the newest barn fires in a winter of devastating blazes across the province. Farm leaders are struggling with solutions to what many observers are saying is the worst year for farm fires in memory.
