Agriculture Site Suitability Maps

Farming has a long history in New Brunswick. Agriculture and its related industries, such as food processing, make a vital contribution to the province’s economy, society and culture.

The Government of New Brunswick recognizes the importance of attracting new entrants to the agriculture industry and supporting the growth of existing operations. Farmland is the foundation of all agriculture sectors. New Brunswick has good land available at relatively affordable prices and plenty of water.

The Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries has established interactive mapping tools to help individuals who are interested in farming in New Brunswick and existing farmers looking to expand their operation.

It is important to note that these mapping tools are intended to serve as a guide only. Each potential site should be individually inspected by a knowledgeable person to ensure that the site meets all requirements for the intended crop.

These maps use algorithms to score the value of each of the above components. This results in a color grading system, where green indicates the best and red, the poorest.

If you have any questions please contact your local Department of Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries office.
