Cleavers Added to Authority Label

As Group 2 resistance in broadleaf weeds increases throughout Western Canada, growers are having trouble controlling cleavers in peas and other crops.  They now have another tool to help in the fight.

 

“We have known for some time that Authority has good activity on cleavers and are excited to make it official with this label addition”, states David Strilchuk, Canadian Manager with FMC.  “Over 36% of flax acres and 12% of pea acres in Western Canada had Authority applied in 2014* so there is an increasing number of growers and retailers that understand the benefits”.

 

Authority is a pre-seed/pre-emergent residual herbicide powered by the group 14 active ingredient sulfentrazone.  Residual weed control from sulfentrazone adds yield, by providing early season and extended control of kochia, redroot pigweed, lamb’s-quarters, wild buckwheat and suppression of cleavers.  Like all weeds on the Authority label, the length of activity on cleavers will be based on the conditions in the field and soil parameters such as organic matter and pH.  

 

Authority is registered in peas, flax, chickpeas, sunflowers and soybeans and allows good recropping flexibility with the recent addition of canola for the following year and lentils for two years after application.
