Mexican Interest in Canadian Genetics At Agribition

Canadian Western Agribition is known as a showcase for some of the best livestock genetics in the world.

Rafael Ramirez Gonzalez has Posta El Cuatro a major livestock operation in Acatic in Jalisco, Mexico.

The operation includes 5000 sows, 1 million laying hens and 500 head of cattle; as well as a farm-based store where they sell their product.

He says their purebred beef operation includes Black Angus, Red Angus, Simmental, and Charolais.

“Most of my genetics is from Canada and I’ve been buying some bulls here from Canadian Western Agribition and some other sales or ranches in Canada. I really like the Candian genetics so that’s why I’m here.”

He says with the Canadian genetics in his herd he likes the productivity of the cattle, the rate of gain, milk and the way they work out on the range.

He likes what he sees at Agribition and is hoping to take home more Canadian genetics this year.

“Maybe some semen and some live cattle too, there’s always time to find animals for new genetics program. In every barn you find a lot of good cattle, so we will see this week what we can take home.”

He had a good chance to check out the cattle at Agribition as he was one of the judges in the President’s Classic earlier this week.
