Sweet Ontario Fruits Arriving In July
Ontario's 2025 tender fruit and table grape season is off to a promising start reports the Ontario Tender Fruit and Fresh Grape Growers. While the weather may be too hot for some farmers, it has has been ideal for producing a sweet and juicy crop.
A cooler-than-usual spring delayed the start of the growing season, returning it to a more traditional timeline. With warm summer temperatures and timely rainfall, the crop is now maturing well.
“We had a slow start, but Mother Nature is right on track,” said Sarah Marshall, Manager of Ontario Tender Fruit Growers. Consumers can look forward to their summer favourites at farm gate and in farmers markets and grocery stores as early as next week she says.
“We’re really pleased with how the crop is looking so far. After a cooler spring, the trees are healthy, and the fruit is sizing up nicely. The heat we’re getting now is helping to bring out that signature Ontario sweetness. It’s shaping up to be a great year for flavour and quality,” said Phil Tregunno, Chair of the Ontario Tender Fruit Growers and a long-time grower.
In these challenging economic times, with trade wars and tariffs, it is important for Canadian farmers to support one another.
Farms.com reminds readers that Ontario’s tender fruit and grape industry is made up of many family farms. Supporting these local growers is important for both freshness and the economy. Buying Canadian produce helps strengthen rural communities and preserve Ontario’s farming traditions.
When shopping, consumers – including fellow farmers -- are encouraged to look for the Foodland Ontario logo, which guarantees that the produce was grown locally and meets high safety and quality standards.
