Saskatchewan Harvest 74 Percent Crop Already in the Bin

Sask. Agriculture Weekly Crop Report Says Harvest Almost Finished

By , Farms.com

According to Saskatchewan’s weekly crop report 27 percent of this year’s crop is already in the bin and 20 percent is ready to be swathed or combined. The warm and dry weather conditions have prompted an earlier than normal harvest. The harvest is ahead of schedule and compared to this time last year, only 55 percent of the crop was combined and in the bin, with 28 percent swathed or ready to be combined. However, in 2010 only 18 percent of the harvest was taken off.

The following is the break down for crop harvest completion represented by percentages:

•Durum – 85%
•Barley – 71%
•Canola – 74%
•Mustard – 85%
•Flax – 27 %
•Lentils – 92%
•Filed peas – 98 %

The yields and overall crop qualities have reported to be good. However, yields are variable depending on the region. The crops that were planted later appear to be producing higher yields.
