New Reforms Protect Farmers and Enhance Consumer Rights

Florida’s 2025 Farm Bill, backed by Commissioner Wilton Simpson, introduces a range of policies designed to strengthen agriculture, protect farmers, and expand consumer protections. The bill, sponsored by Senator Keith Truenow and Representative Kaylee Tuck, addresses key issues affecting Florida’s agricultural community.

“This legislation is a strong step forward to defend Florida’s agricultural industry and the hardworking farmers, ranchers, and growers who fuel our economy,” said Simpson. The bill introduces significant reforms in land use, financial regulations, and agricultural education.

Key Highlights of the Bill -

Preserving Florida’s Agricultural Land

  • Returns decision-making on solar farms to local governments.

  • Ensures tax incentives for dual-use land combining farming and solar energy.

Reducing Financial Burdens for Farmers

  • Exempts agricultural property from certain taxes.

  • Eliminates taxes on materials used for farm conservation programs. 

Improving Emergency Preparedness

  • Establishes a fuel supply program for disaster response.

  • Provides grants for generator power switches at fuel stations.

Expanding Consumer Protections

  • Bans mislabeling of plant-based products as meat or milk.

  • Requires clear price labeling on all retail items.

  • Prohibits the sale of psychedelic mushrooms.

  • Increases penalties for mail theft crimes.

Supporting Agricultural Education

  • Ensures FFA and 4-H programs can continue operating on school property.
