2017 Stripe Rust Ratings From Eastern Nebraska Wheat Variety Trials

In 2017, stripe rust (Figure 2) was one of two major diseases that affected wheat in Nebraska.  The other disease was the wheat streak mosaic/Triticum mosaic/High Plains Virus complex.

In eastern Nebraska stripe rust onset was earlier than in western Nebraska, allowing it to develop to levels that allowed scoring of varieties and lines in state variety trials in Washington, Saunders, and Clay counties.  Some varieties/lines showed very good resistance whereas others were highly susceptible (Figure 1).
 
Table I shows the scores on a scale of 1 = Resistant to 9 = Susceptible.
