Bt Trait Table Updated in Time for Seed Selection

The Handy Bt Trait Table was updated in November 2018. The authors include Chris DiFonzo, Michigan State University, and Pat Porter, Texas A&M University. The table lists the types of Bt hybrids present in all commercialized corn in the U.S. in a concise two-page format. It presents the trade names for hybrids with Bt traits, their Bt event, protein(s) expressed, targeted insects, and herbicide traits.  It has been updated and reformatted for easier viewing. It is a useful reference at this time of year as you order corn seed for 2019.

The table can help you understand which hybrids have which traits (both Bt and herbicide tolerance traits). This information can help you avoid the development of resistance by not planting the same traits repeatedly (even if you change hybrids), and will be useful during the field season as you troubleshoot insect injury, or prepare to apply herbicides.

Now in its 15th year, this table has become the standard as an authoritative reference to Bt toxins in corn.

We cover: today I am so excited to share this conversation with my buddy Eric Nordell of Beech Grove Farm in Pennsylvania to chat about, well, a lot of things. Eric and his wife Anne have run beech grove farm since 1983 and they do things a little differently (like farming with horses) but they dry farm which we discuss, they use some cover crops in the paths in interesting ways (also discussed) and in fact, we get into a whole digression about their deer fencing that you’re gonna wanna hear.
