Canadian Foodgrains Bank Welcomes Funding Increase For International Assistance

The federal government has committed to increase its international assistance budget with $2 billion in new funding over five years.

The news came down during last week's budget announcement.

The Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFGB) is welcoming the new funding, noting the money plays a critical role in addressing global poverty, inequality, and hunger.

“The announcement provides improved predictability, greater transparency, and a stronger commitment to helping the poorest and most vulnerable,” says Foodgrains Bank executive director Jim Cornelius.

CFGB is also pleased that Budget 2018 will substantially increase the base budget for humanitarian assistance to $738 million dollars.
