Condition Of Winter Wheat Crops Across The Plains Remain Under 50 Percent In Good To Excellent

In the latest crop progress report released Monday April 10, 2017, the United States Department of Agriculture rates the US winter wheat crop condition at 53 percent good to excellent, with 34 fair, 11 poor and 3 very poor. Winter wheat headed was 9 percent compared to 4 percent this time last year and is 3 points above the five-year average. Corn planted at 3 percent, 1 point below this time last year and on par with the five-year average. Cotton planted rates at 6 percent, 1 above last year and on par with the average. According to the weekly crop progress report from USDA, Oklahoma winter wheat jointing reached 84 percent, up 2 points from normal. Winter wheat headed reached 8 percent, down 2 points from normal. Canola blooming reached 60 percent, up 15 points from normal. Sorghum planted reached 7 percent, up 4 points from the previous year and up 5 points from normal. In Kansas, winter wheat condition rated 4 percent very poor, 13 poor, 35 fair, 43 good, and 5 excellent. Winter wheat jointed was 43 percent, behind 57 last year, but near the five-year average of 44. Headed was 1 percent, near 0 last year and 2 average.
