Kudrinkos store honoured for supporting Ontario farmers

A grocery store in Ontario, Kudrinko in Westport has been recognized for its strong commitment to promoting locally grown food and supporting farmers.

The recognition was presented as part of a well-known provincial awards program that highlights retailers who actively encourage the sale of fresh, seasonal produce.

A member of the provincial government presented the award to a produce manager, Vicki Garrett at a local store in Westport. The store received a Platinum-level award, which is one of the highest honors in the program.

This recognition reflects the team’s efforts to create attractive and effective displays of fruits and vegetables grown within the province.

The awards program focuses on encouraging grocery stores to design creative in-store displays that make it easier for shoppers to identify and purchase local products.

By highlighting fresh and seasonal produce, stores help increase awareness among customers about the benefits of choosing food grown close to home.

“Congratulations to the Kudrinko’s team on being recognized with a 2026 Foodland Ontario Retailer Award for their ongoing dedication to promoting locally grown produce,” said MPP Clark.

“Leeds and Grenville’s hard-working farmers grow some of the best food in the world and I thank Kudrinko’s for their commitment to showcasing it so their customers can support our local rural economy,” said Clark.

The awards program has been running for many years and is considered a key event within the produce industry. It recognizes the efforts of produce managers and retail staff who work hard to present local food in appealing ways.

This year, many grocery stores across the province were recognized for their innovative displays and commitment to local sourcing.

Officials also highlighted how choosing locally grown produce benefits the community. It supports farmers, strengthens the economy, and ensures a stable and reliable food supply.

Retailers play an important role in guiding consumer choices and helping people understand when different fruits and vegetables are in season.
Ontario is known for its diverse agricultural production, offering a wide range of fresh produce such as fruits, vegetables, and greenhouse crops. Programs like this help connect families with locally grown food and encourage healthier and more sustainable eating habits.
