Late Blight Risk Low In Manitoba

This year's potato crop is looking very nice.

That from Manitoba Agriculture Plant Pathologist Vikram Bisht, who says some of the early planted potatoes are about an inch in size in many fields.

He notes more rain would be welcome.

"In general the crops have to be irrigated because for good production you need water. These rains did not go to all fields and so irrigation is actually a must."

Bisht says there has been some report of late blight in the U.S. but none here yet in Manitoba. He adds this province is well below the peak risk level right now.
