Sask Ag Tour stops in Craven

Students from the University of Guelph agriculture program stopped in Craven Friday night as part of their Sask Ag Tour.

The tour takes all 38 participants across the Northern United States and into the Canadian prairies to tour Agriculture facilities to learn more about their field.

Lola Jung, who is from Ontario, is taking part in the tour. She says she hopes to take a lot of what she’s learned from this trip and use it in real life.

“Taking the experience that I gain from this trip and applying it to my studies back home and really contrasting the difference between agriculture her in Saskatchewan versus in Ontario.”

Organizer Karly Rumpel says the last couple days have several stops left.

“We’re stopping by a brewery in Manitoba, and an alpaca farm and a fishery,” Rumpel says. “It’ll be pretty good, it’s an exciting end to our trip.”

Students are set to be back in Guelph by Tuesday.

Video: Grains on Tap | Episode 1: MP Branden Leslie

Our journey through the corridors of power and the fields of grain begins with a special guest, Branden Leslie, Member of Parliament for Portage-Lisgar and a proud alumnus of the Grain Growers of Canada. Branden, a native of Portage La Prairie, Manitoba, brings a wealth of knowledge from his time as a political advisor and his tenure as the manager of policy and government relations with the GGC, to his recent election to the House of Commons.

As we sit down with Branden on a late Friday afternoon, fresh from his duties at the House of Commons, we'll dive into the intersection of agriculture and politics, his journey from advocacy to elected office, and how these experiences shape his views on the future of Canadian agriculture. And, as we're doing this over a couple of well-deserved beers, we'll also touch on the lighter side of life, including Brandon's recent venture into fatherhood.
