Shockingly slow movement of grain via railway frustrating Ag Minister Stewart

It turns out farmers aren’t the only ones annoyed with the lack grain movement from Saskatchewan this winter.

Provincial Agriculture minister Lyle Stewart is also quite annoyed with the lack of movement.

The latest figures show CN supplied 34% of the hopper car orders, while CP Rail filled 69% in the week ending February 11th.

Stewart says he has plans to meet the railway companies sometime this week to discuss improving grain shipments.

“We’ll see what they have to say for themselves,” he said.

“At times, their car delivery numbers have been very good in this shipping season, but very, very poor at other times.”

Stewart says the lack of movement is actually shocking, as this years crop isn’t that large.
